Home made burgers make for a delicious and economical family meal. Check out some of these tasty burger ideas, and some helpful tips for your next burger making mission.

Burger time-savers

  • When making burgers, double the recipe and greeze one portion, ready shaped into burgers, in a single layer. When frozen, pack and keep in an airtight container for later use.
  • Old left-at-the-end-of-the-packet bread slices can be crumbed in a blender or food processor and kept in the freezer ready for burger making.
  • Chop the vegetables and herbs in a food processor; the finer the chop the more evenly they will blend through the burger mix and the end results will have a nicer flavour.

Burger-making tips

  • If making burgers in advance, store in a sealed container in the fridge. This is for food-safety reasons and ingredients in the patties (like onion), can impart their flavour to more delicate foods such as milk.
  • Remove burgers from the refridgerator 10-15 minutes before cooking - meat cooks better from room temperature.
  • Using your hands to mix the burer ingredients ensures an even distribution of ingredients.
  • Don't proces meat for burgers in a food processor as you're likely to end up with a sausage meat texture than minced meat.

  3. Rice Bean Burgers
