Entries open.

Friday 23 June

Entries close at 5pm.

Wednesday 28 June

Confirmation of entries, entry fee invoice, sample bottle instructions and labels will be posted to NZ entrants and emailed to overseas entrants

Friday 14 July

Final date for receiving samples and entry fee payment

Arrangements can be made for receiving late samples of new vintage bottlings until Thursday 27 July – please contact

Monday 31 July, Tuesday 1 August, Wednesday 2 August

Judging takes place at the Westpac Stadium in Wellington

Thursday 3 August

Judging results are confirmed by email. Please note the embargo dates on results as per below.

Suppliers of the top-ranked Top 50 Gold medal-winning wines contacted to confirm their wine(s) meet the entry criteria.

Monday 7 August

Midday deadline for suppliers of the top-ranked Top 50 Gold medal-winning wines to confirm their wine(s) meet the entry criteria.

Tuesday 8 August

Full instructions emailed to suppliers of top-ranked Top 50 Gold medal-winning wines that meet the entry criteria for inclusion in the 6-week nationwide promotion.

Suppliers of Gold medal-winning wines outside the Top 50 contacted to confirm next steps. 

Suppliers of the top scoring wine in the over $25 classes contacted to confirm next steps. 

Wednesday 16 August

For the supplier of each Top 50 wine, by this date:

(a) New suppliers to Foodstuffs must complete the documentation to become a Foodstuffs Approved Supplier

(b) The product must be set up either via GS1 ProductFlow or Data eXpress (DEX).

Monday 4 September

Medal certificates dispatched by post. This communication will include a pack of 1,000 NWWA medal stickers for every Gold and Silver medal winning wine.

Friday 15 September

Any Top 50 wines imported from overseas must be landed and available in NZ by this date

w/c 18 September

Suppliers of Top 50 wines featured in the 6-week nationwide promotion but not already stocked in Foodstuffs Distribution Centres (DC) will receive their first order and delivery details for stock going into the DC. Actual order quantity and delivery date will be confirmed by the relevant Buyer.

Wednesday 27 September

All Top 50 wines must be received at Foodstuffs DC

The nationwide New World Wine Awards promotion commences. Public embargo on results is lifted.

Please note that all medal results are confidential and embargoed until Wednesday 13 September 2017.
From this date suppliers can discuss their wines with New World stores ONLY.  
All medal results are still under public embargo and must not to be publicly disclosed until the awards are officially announced. The date of lifting the public embargo will be confirmed by email from the Competition Director.
