New World Wine Awards competition

Celebrating 23 Years of Excellence: The New World Wine Awards

Get ready to toast the return of New Zealand's most consumer-focused wine competition! The New World Wine Awards, now in its 23rd year, offers wineries an unparalleled opportunity to showcase their finest wines to wine enthusiasts across the country. This unique competition seamlessly blends the rigour of an international-standard wine show with a robust retail platform, ensuring that top wines not only shine in-store but also experience a significant boost in sales following their wins.

Key Highlights

• Entry Criteria: Any winery can enter, regardless of their existing relationship with New World or Foodstuffs. The focus is on wines priced at $30 or less, with a special emphasis on affordability and accessibility for consumers.

• Competition Process: Expert judges blind-taste over 1000 wines using the internationally recognized 100-point system. The Top 50 Gold medal-winning wines are selected based on their quality and availability.

• Distribution and Promotion: These top wines are distributed through more than 135 New World stores nationwide and receive extensive in-store publicity support. This includes eye-catching point-of-sale displays to help customers discover and purchase these exceptional wines.

• Volume Requirements: Popular varietals require a minimum of 4,000 bottles, while emerging varietals need 1,800 bottles. This ensures a diverse range of styles and producers can participate.

• International Participation: Overseas wines are welcome, provided they meet the volume requirements and are available for dispatch by the specified deadline.

• Promotion Period: The Top 50 wines are actively promoted during the high-volume Christmas period following the awards display.

• Medal Eligibility: All entries are eligible for medals, including those wines over $30.

• Weird & Wonderful are welcome: Alternate wines and those made from any fruit have a special class this year so we can identify the best regardless of how it’s made.
