There are so many items of beer trivia circulating the world, here is a list of some of the most interesting that I came across...

  • Beer with metal caps should be stored up right as this minimizes oxidation and contamination from the cap
  • Cenosillicaphobia is fear of an empty glass
  • Labeorphilist is the name for someone who collects beer bottles
  • One of the few short sentences in the English language to include every letter of the English alphabet is "Pack my box with five dozen liquor jugs"
  • William Painter invented the world's first bottle cap in 1891
  • The "rule of thumb" originates to before thermometers were invented, brewers would dip a thumb into the mix to find the right temperature for adding yeast. Too cold would prevent the yeast from growing and too hot would make the yeast die.
  • The oldest known recipe in the world is for beer
  • One theory surrounding the origin of "mind your Ps and Qs" is from English pubs. When customers got unruly, the bartender would tell them to mind their Ps and Q's, referring to mind your pints and quarts.

  • Tegestology is the name for collecting beer mats
  • In China you can buy beer in plastic bags
  • The world's oldest running brewery is the Weihenstephan Brewery in Bavaria
