Back for a second year in the Top 30 and no surprise at all as this is an absolutely banging beer. The judges loved everything about this beer from its “beautiful” appearance, the inviting hop aroma, which is a mix of fresh tropical fruit and hints of diesel and kerosene – all in a good way. This is streamlined, zingy and pacey. Everything about this beer feels like a high-revving race car – from the pale lemon appearance, through the tight, white frothy head and finishing with a bright bitterness that’s solid but doesn’t dominate the malt sweetness. “Excellent balance of NZ hop aroma and gentle but firm bitterness”, was the judges’ summary.
The New Zealand-style Pilsner is more robust that the European equivalent and the fruity delicate hops can handle refined spice such as Vietnamese spring rolls or a banh mi sandwich.
