A beer to gladden the heart and a back-story that does the same. Blenheim-based Renaissance was a craft pioneer in the early 2000s but went bust a couple of years ago before being rescued by distributor Brandhouse, owned by members of the Dellaca family who founded clothing retailer Postie Plus. They bought the brand and kept alive some great beers – and this is one of them. This was one of the beers that put Renaissance on the map all those years ago and it’s one of the absolute classics of New Zealand craft beer: a rich, chocolately, silky, syrupy smooth Porter with a hint of coffee and licorice. Winter goodness in a glass.
Smooth sweet chocolate notes of a porter love all courses from cheese and oysters, through charred rib eye and chips, to vanilla and cream-based desserts.
