Pasta sauce is a versatile pantry essential, that’s not just for pasta! Try these three simple recipes: meatball subs, homemade pepperoni pizza and smokey baked beans.

Pasta Sauce

Ingredients

Method

Ingredients

Meatball subs

  • 2 long rolls or buns
  • Olive oil
  • ⅔ cup Pams Pasta Sauce
  • 6-8 cooked meatballs
  • ½ cup grated mozzarella
  • Fresh basil leaves, to garnish

Homemade pepperoni pizza

  • 1 large pizza base
  • ½ cup Pams Pasta Sauce
  • ⅔ cup grated mozzarella cheese
  • 50-100g sliced pepperoni
  • 3 button mushrooms, thinly sliced
  • ½ tsp dried oregano

Smokey baked beans

  • ¼ white onion, finely diced
  • 4 rashers streaky bacon, diced
  • 2 x 400g tin cannellini beans, drained
  • 1 cup Pams Pasta Sauce
  • ¼ cup BBQ sauce
  • 1 Tbsp wholegrain mustard
  • 2 Tbsp brown sugar

Method

Meatball subs

  1. Preheat oven to 220 degrees Celsius. Slice the buns lengthways, ensuring not to cut the entire way through. Place on a lined tray.
  2. Spread the inside of the buns with half of the pasta sauce and lay the meatballs down the centre. Spoon the remaining pasta sauce over the meatballs, then top with the grated mozzarella.
  3. Place into the oven and bake for 5-10 minutes, or until the mozzarella has melted. Leave to cool for 5 minutes, then garnish with fresh basil and serve.

Homemade pepperoni pizza

  1.  Preheat oven to 200 degrees Celsius. Place the pizza base onto a lined baking tray.
  2. Spread the pasta sauce over the pizza base, then top with the grated mozzarella. Lay the sliced pepperoni and mushrooms evenly over the pizza, then sprinkle over the dried oregano.
  3. Place into the oven and bake for 20-25 minutes or until the base is golden brown and the cheese has melted. Leave to cool for 5 minutes before serving.

Smokey baked beans

  1. Bring a saucepan to a medium high heat. Sauté the onion and bacon for 5-10 minutes or until the onion is translucent and the bacon is golden.
  2. To the onion and bacon mixture, add the beans, pasta sauce, BBQ sauce, mustard and brown sugar. Stir and simmer for 10-15 minutes or until reduced slightly. Season to taste with salt and pepper.
  3. Serve immediately or keep in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 5 days.
