 What are foodbank-friendly products?

Our local food charity partners desperately need non-perishable products that are typical household essentials.

Look out for foodbank-friendly products highlighted in your local New World:

  • Tins of soup, baked beans, spaghetti, fruit and vegetables, soup, kidney beans, mixed beans, chickpeas, tomatoes, pasta sauce.
  • Things that make a hearty base of a meal like rice, pasta and noodles are good.
  • Breakfast cereal is a great staple and things for the pantry like sugar, flour, tea bags and crackers.
  • Hygiene basics are important like soap, toilet paper and tampons.

FAQs

Our Family2Family food drive is all about supporting whānau in our local communities. We're partnering with local food charity partners, and you - our New World family - to lend a hand to those in need this winter.

Next time you're in New World, grab a Family2Family bag, load it up with foodbank-friendly items, or purchase a $20 pre-filled bag to donate. Then, drop it off at the in store collection point, and we’ll take it to City Missions or local food charity partners.

To top it off, New World is donating $250,000 to support local food charity partners across New Zealand.

Let’s work together to bring some much needed relief to Kiwi families who need an extra hand.

Grab a Family2Family paper bag at your local New World and load it up with foodbank-friendly items. Then, drop it off at the in-store collection point, and we’ll deliver your donation to a local foodbank.

No bag? No problem. We welcome donations of foodbank-friendly items in any shape or form – whether it’s in a reusable bag, box or just individual items.

You can also get a $20 pre-filled bag and drop off at the in-store collection point. Or, if you buy online, we’ll take care of the drop-off for you. There are so many ways to donate!

This year, if you hold a Clubcard New World Dollar balance, you can also donate using that. Simply add a $20 pre-filled bag to cart either in store or online and then with your New World Dollar balance you can choose to allocate as much or as little of it towards the transaction as you like. Part payment of New World Dollar and usual payment methods are available both in store and online.

We have bags that are loaded up and ready to go with a selection of foodbank-friendly items. You can get a bag in store or  buy online for $20. Drop the bag off at the collection point in your local New World, or if you’ve purchased online, we’ll drop it off for you.

Foodbanks are always in need of non-perishable, household essentials. Foods like canned goods, spreads, tea, coffee, rice and pasta, as well as non-food items like soap, toothpaste, shampoo and sanitary products.

To make it easy, we’ve marked foodbank friendly items in your local New World.

Look out for these foodbank-friendly items:

  • Baked Beans or Spaghetti
  •  Canned Fruit or Vegetables
  •  Canned Soup
  •  Canned Pasta Sauce or Tomatoes
  •  Canned Beans or Legumes
