Wine for every occasion
Not sure what bottle to bring to the party, or whether you can drink red in summer? Here’s how to pick the best wine to suit any occasion.

What’s the occasion?
Each wine is different, as is every occasion. Just like you would pair wine to your food, you’ll get the best experience out of your wine choice if you pair it to the season or event, too.
Barbecue wines | Wedding wines | Christmas wines |
| Barbecues bring out a lot of food. Consider buying a few different wines to have variety, then people can pick their favourites. | Wedding wine is often milder in flavour and lower in alcohol volume - improving its approachability for a big audience. | Christmas involves a lot of rich food, so you’ll need wine which can stand up to it all - meat, hearty veg and dessert. |
Find your season
You can pair wine to the season just like you’d pair it to food. Big, bold and toasty feels comforting and warm in winter, while crisp, cool and fruity is refreshing in summer. Of course, in the changeable shoulder seasons you’ll need to be ready for a bit of both.
Spring Wines | Summer Wines | Autumn Wines | Winter Wines |
| Temperamental spring starts crisp and ends up warm, so your wine will do the opposite. Start bold and move towards crisp as the sun heats up. | Summer is all about heat and humidity. Crisp, refreshing wines go down best, with lighter bodies and big fruity notes. | You’ll get weather from all seasons in autumn. Crisp summer wines will still work great, but you’ll move towards winter warmers as it gets colder. | Look for warmth and comfort in winter. Fuller-bodied wines and higher alcohol volume will feel warming as you drink, especially with toasty or spicy flavours. |
