From time to time we receive reports that New World customers are being targeted by online scams in the form of pop-up website ads, Facebook pages, phone calls and emails.

Here's what to watch out for:

 

Scam alert: 1 December 2023

We are aware of fraudulent attempts to imitate New World on Google Ads. For secure shopping, please ensure that the URL you are using for shopping is www.newworld.co.nz.

We are aware of a scam email being sent to customers claiming that as part of a Black Friday promotion, they will receive Tupperware in exchange for taking a survey.

This has not been sent by New World, and we recommend that you do not click or share any links, do not ring any number or provide any personal information.

We are aware that malicious software is attempting to replicate the New World app. To ensure the security of your device, please only download our app from the Google PlayStore or the Apple Store.

Email scam: 19 December 2022

We are aware of a scam email being sent to customers saying that they have been selected to get a chance to win $2500 New World Voucher, and asking them to click on a button to "Check their chance".

Facebook scam: 30 November 2022

We are aware of a Facebook scam being sent via Facebook messenger under the name "New World Daily Promotional Gifts" and asking customer to answer a survey in order to win "1000 Dollar". This is not a legitimate competition, and we recommend that you do not click or share any links, do not ring any number or provide any personal information.

We are aware of a Facebook scam that is telling customers they have been selected as a winner of their giveaway event and to register their personal details with them to claim the prize. This is not the legitimate New World New Lynn Facebook account and we recommend that you do not follow them, click or share any links, or provide any personal information.

We are aware of a scam via an online shopping website, pretending to be legitimate online sellers and offering products at a suspiciously cheap price. This website is using our images, name and logo, but this has nothing to do with New World. Facebook scams: 2 July 2022

A scam via Facebook messenger that offers people a Gift Card using personal contacts as other winners. Please ignore any messages that are not from the verified national New World Facebook page. Contact us if you are unsure.  

Bank scams: 20 June 2022

Some people are reporting getting a phone call from their bank about a New World transaction and credit owing. Please do not give out any personal information to unsolicited callers and contact your bank directly for further information.

Phone scam - 22 April 2022

A phone call claiming to need verification for a credit card purchase at New World over $1000. Please do not share any personal information with unknown callers. If you're unsure of any credit card transactions please contact your bank.

We are aware of a scam survey being sent to customers by email, saying that they will get a $150 voucher if they complete the survey.

Phone scam - 1 November 2021

A scam phone call has been reported by some customers recently. These customers have received a phone call with an automated message advising that they have exceeded their spend or credit limit at a New World store. They are then advised that they need to deposit the money back into the store's bank account.

If you receive an unexpected call or are unsure of the source, please end the call. Contact us if you has any queries or concerns.

We are aware of a scam Facebook account that is using our name and logo. The fake page "New World NZ" has copied some of our competitions alongside numerous other posts/images and posted them on their page pretending to be New World.
