American crunch slice

Serves 6 - 8

Cooking time: 15 minutes

An oldie and a goodie and the icing is the perfect finishing touch.

Ingredients

Method

  • Slice:
  • 2 Tablespoon golden syrup
  • 125g butter
  • 1 cup flour
  • 1 cup rolled oats
  • ¾ cup sugar
  • 1 cup coconut
  • 1 tablespoon cocoa
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • nuts and fruit if desired
  • 1 ½ cups icing sugar
  • 1 cup coconut
  • 2 teaspoons cocoa
  • Icing:
  • 65g butter
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla essence
  • A little water

  1. Combine all dry ingredients in a bowl.
  2. Melt the golden syrup and butter then pour over the dry ingredients and mix well.
  3. Press the mixture into a baking dish and bake at 180c for approximately 15 minutes.
  4. Cover with the icing when cool.

Icing:

  1. Combine icing sugar, coconut, cocoa, butter and vanilla essence and heat until boiling
  2. Let cool a little then spread over slice.
