- Prep time: 10 mins | Cooking time: 40 mins
Family-favourite apple crumble is the classic dessert you’ll be craving on those colder nights. Tart granny smith apples tossed with cinnamon and topped with a crispy buttery topping. Serve with ice cream or custard for a satisfying sweet treat.
Ingredients
6 granny smith apples, peeled and diced
2 tsp ground cinnamon
1 ⅓ cups caster sugar
1 cup plain flour
120g butter, melted
Method
Preheat your oven to 180°C fan bake.
In a large bowl, stir together apples, a teaspoon of cinnamon, a third cup of caster sugar and two tablespoons of water. Transfer into a baking dish.
Make the crumble topping by combining flour, butter, the remaining cinnamon and remaining sugar. Mix until well combined then spread over the apples.
Place in the oven to bake for 30-40 minutes or until golden brown and the apples are tender.
Leave to cool for 5 minutes, then serve and enjoy.
Tips:
Use lemon juice instead of water for a citrus twist and add a cup of rolled oats and thirty grams of extra cubed butter in with the flour for a crunchy crumble topping.
Granny smiths a bit tart? Swap for Braeburn apples (slightly less tart) or any other (sweeter) apple of your choice.
For the crumbliest crumble use cold butter
For a slight caramel finish, sprinkle a small amount of brown sugar over the crumble before you pop it in the oven.
