FoodStarter competition terms and conditions

 

Introduction

FoodStarter – Proudly supporting Kiwi entrepreneurs is a competition to find an innovative, on-trend food or grocery products to take to market through New World stores Nationwide.  

By entering this competition Entrants agree to the following terms and conditions.  

Organisers and supporters

The competition is jointly organised by Foodstuffs (N.Z.) Ltd (“Foodstuffs”) and Ministry of Awesome and is supported by Foodstuffs North Island Limited, Foodstuffs South Island Limited, New Zealand Food Innovation Network, Strategy Creative, PHD Media and Socialites.   

Entering the competition

All entries must be submitted on the official entry form no later than 11:59pm on Sunday 20th February 2022 (“competition closing date”).
If entering multiple products, a separate application must be completed  for each*.  
Incomplete or late entries will not be considered.
All entries must be submitted through the competition’s official application portal ‘Eventornado’.
Product(s) entered into FoodStarter must comply with all applicable laws and be able to be legally sold in a New Zealand supermarket**.
Products must be manufactured in New Zealand (imported ingredients are allowed).

Judging and winners

Entries will be evaluated against Impact & Feasibility, Creativity & Innovation, Scalability & Launch Plan, Category Placement & Current competitors and Sustainability & Corporate Social Responsibility.
A shortlist of 20 entries will be selected into the semi-final by the expert panel selected by Foodstuffs and Ministry of Awesome and advised in March 2022.
All the semi-finalists will be required to prepare a longer application in the form provided to semi-finalists by the Organisers. The deadline for this application will be advised at the time the form is provided.
From the top 20 semi-finalists, 10 finalists will be selected and invited to pitch at the final event, event date and venue to be confirmed.  If you are unable to be at the final event the Organisers may select another finalist to attend on these terms and conditions.* 
The 10 finalists will present their product in a pitch to the judging panel at final event and will be expected to provide samples of their product to the judging panel as part of their pitch. The winners will be announced on the night at the final event.
Finalists are required to fund their own travel and accommodation costs.
There are two categories and there will be one winner from each category:
- One winner to be selected from the Small Supplier to New World Category**.
- One winner to be selected from the Startup Category.
The judges’ decision is final and no correspondence will be entered into.
The prize winner and finalists consent to participate in and cooperate as required in all promotional activities relating to FoodStarter.

*Details of the final event will be advised when practicable and will be subject to change if required due to the COVID-19 pandemic. 

**Products entered in this Competition may already be stocked in one or more New World stores

Prize Package

Each category winner will receive a prize package of in-kind business support worth over $70,000 + :

The opportunity for National ranging in the New World supermarket network across New Zealand
Expert startup incubation programme provided by the startup activation team at Ministry of Awesome
Specialist Food & beverage sector R&D, development, and support with Food Innovation Network
Design and marketing support from Strategy Creative
Go to market, sell-in, and sell-through strategy support provided by Foodstuffs North Island and Foodstuffs South Island Merchandising
• Marketing & PR support provided by Foodstuffs Marketing & CX Team
A fully paid for HQ for up to 4 team members for 12 months at Christchurch’s Te Ohaka - Centre for Growth and Innovation (South Island) or GridAKL (North Island)
2 hour workshop with Social Media Agency Socialites. 
2 Hour Media Consulting Sessions with PHD Media*.  
Return flights and accommodation to attend Foodstuffs 2022 Partnership Awards for 2 to Christchurch on 27th May 2022**.
• Complimentary exhibitor site & on the ground support at Foodstuffs Expo 2023 ***.

Privacy and Intellectual Property

By entering this competition each Entrant agrees that the Organisers may collect, store and use the information contained in their entry (“Entry Information”) as set out below.
Entry Information will be used to select the ten shortlisted entries and contact the finalists. 
New World and Ministry of Awesome websites will publish details of the 10 shortlisted entries including the title of each entry, the name of the Entrant and location and a short summary of the entry (the full details will not be published). The Organisers may also use this information for promotional purposes.
The Entry Information will be shared between the Organisers for the purposes of judging the competition.
All information provided by the Entrants will be collected, used, stored, disclosed and corrected in accordance with the Privacy Act 2020. Any personal information provided to Foodstuffs will be managed in accordance with New World’s Privacy Policy
All Entrants have the right to access their information and request that any personal information held to be corrected. The Organisers may contact Entrants to provide feedback on their Entries, post competition analysis and other entrepreneurship opportunities.
Every Entrant warrants that, their product details and branding ideas are new and original and not subject to any third-party claim, and that the Entrant owns all intellectual property, trademark or any other ownership and/or moral rights expressed in their entry.
Every Entrant warrants that their product will not infringe the intellectual property rights of any person. The Organisers reserve the right to remove or delete any Entry and exclude the respective Entrant immediately if they have reason to believe that the entry breaches, or could be seen to be in breach of, any third party’s legal or moral right(s).
The Entrant grants the Organisers the right to use the Entrant’s Intellectual Property for the purposes of this Competition. 
Except as provided for in these Terms and Conditions, the Organisers will keep Entry Information confidential.
Entrants retain ownership of their product, including any intellectual property therein. 
Should an Entrant wish to use the fact they have entered this Competition as part of their own promotional activities then they must seek the prior written consent of the Organisers prior to that activity commencing.

Exclusions

The Organisers reserve the right to exclude an Entrant who is in breach of the Terms and Conditions, misleads, deceives, or acts in a fraudulent manner, or who acts in such a way as to, in the sole opinion of the Organisers, bring the Competition and/or the Organisers into disrepute.
Entrants take part in this Competition of their own volition. The Organisers will not be liable for any claims for loss, damage or injury whatsoever or for any physical or mental injury suffered by any Entrant, as a result of, or in connection with, this Competition.
The Organisers reserve the right to amend or change the Terms and Conditions at any time at their sole discretion, including extending, postponing or cancelling the competition.
All Entrants agree that if they win either category and progress to become a supplier of Foodstuffs, the provision of the winners products to Foodstuffs will:
-In the case of Foodstuffs South Island New World stores, be governed by the Foodstuffs South Island Supplier Terms and Conditions
-In the case of Foodstuffs North Island New World stores, be governed by the Foodstuffs North Island Supplier Terms and Conditions. 
Nothing in this Competition requires Foodstuffs to meet any minimum spend or minimum volume commitments from the winners.  The Terms and Conditions shall be governed by, and construed in accordance with, the laws of New Zealand and shall be subject to the non-exclusive jurisdiction of New Zealand courts.

We collect information about:

Your personal information in order to evaluate your entry into the FoodStarter Competition. Besides our staff, we share this information with:
-Ministry of Awesome, Foodstuffs, New Zealand Food Innovation Network, Foodstuffs North Island, Foodstuffs South and the FoodStarter judges in order to achieve the competition's goals.
If you don’t fill in the form correctly, we'll be unable to allow entry into the FoodStarter competition.
