- Prep time: 10 mins plus 15 mins resting | Cooking time: 30 mins
Our cheesy baked meatballs are the definition of soul food, and this one-dish wonder is bound to be your next family favourite! Best served hot with a side salad and some buttery garlic bread.
Ingredients
500g beef mince
1 large egg, beaten
½ cup breadcrumbs
1 tsp dried mixed herbs
3 garlic cloves, minced
420g can pasta sauce
¾ cup grated mozzarella
Method
Preheat your oven to 190℃ fan bake. In a bowl, mix together the beef mince, beaten egg, breadcrumbs, dried herbs, garlic and season with salt and pepper. Cover and set aside for 15 minutes.
Using wet hands, roll the mince mixture into 12-16 balls. Bring a large oven-safe pan to medium heat with a glug of olive oil, then cook the meatballs for 2-3 minutes on each side or until golden.
Pour the pasta sauce and ½ cup of water over the meatballs, then fold to coat the meatballs in the sauce.
Sprinkle over the grated cheese, then bake for 15 minutes or until the sauce is bubbling and the meatballs have cooked through. Leave to sit for 5 minutes before serving, then enjoy!
Top tip:
Give this dish a chef-like twist with a drizzle of beautiful basil oil! Simply blend two large handfuls of basil leaves with a garlic clove and ¼ cup of olive oil until smooth, then drizzle over the freshly cooked meatballs.
