Ruru Central Otago Pinot Noir 2018

Gold, scored 95 points

Pinot Noir

Red Wine

Key flavours

Cedar wood, cherry fruit, thyme

Judges Comments:

Central Otago has lots of quite different sub-regions, like this one from Alexandra, which makes it one of the world’s southernmost vineyards. The 20 ha Immigrant’s Vineyard, named after owners Roland and Lucienne van der Wal, who arrived in New Zealand in 1986, is predominately planted in Pinot Noir. The wines are named Ruru in recognition of New Zealand's native owl, which inhabits the area. This is a wine with rich dark cherry flavours and a silky textured mouthfeel – classic Central Otago Pinot!

Pairing Recommendation:

Complementing a wide range of dishes from reasonably robust to restrained and elegant. Great with the Sunday roast, burger and ribs or steak, sausages and game, take to a pot-luck dinner or BBQ. Versatile enough for antipasti, cheese, pizza and pasta, a light lunch or a summer’s day picnic.
