2024 New World Beer & Cider Awards

The New World Beer & Cider Awards are back, offering breweries and cidermakers an unparalleled opportunity to get their best brews in front of shoppers in New World stores nationwide.

Now in its tenth year, the competition is unique in bringing together the rigours of professional judging with a retail opportunity to deliver measurable sales and a major boost to brand awareness for the Top 30 winners – on top of the usual bragging rights, of course!

  • To cater for consumers’ ongoing thirst for new and exciting brews, specific classes have been created for the more unusual and creative beers and ciders.
  • The competition includes a special class for low and no alcohol beers and ciders under 1.15% ABV that are growing in popularity.
  • Entrants don’t need to be an existing New World or Foodstuffs supplier to put their best brews forward for judging and new entrants are actively encouraged!
  • To ensure sufficient stock for our thirsty New World customers, each entry must be able to supply the minimum volume within the required timeframe in the event of being selected for the Top 30. Click here for more details on entry requirements.

An independent panel of expert judges will seek out the Top 30 beers & ciders entered into the competition and award the Supreme Winner. These great products will be rewarded with national distribution through 140+ New World stores, gaining extensive brand exposure through active instore promotion and comprehensive marketing during the awards’ four-week promotion. The next 20 best beers and ciders will be Highly Commended and celebrated on the New World website, creating a Top 50 list for shoppers to explore.

The panel of 29 beer and cider judges will bring vast industry experience and expertise to the judging process. Each entry will be blind judged and assessed on its qualities using a collaborative approach evaluating technical excellence, balance and, most importantly, drinkability. We’re also delighted to support the industry and judges-in-training through our junior judge opportunities. Chair of Judges Michael Donaldson (Pursuit of Hoppiness, Beer Nation, The Big Book of Home Brewing) will be heading the judging team with the support of Deputy Chair of Judges Kelly Ryan (Waimea West Hops).

We encourage you to enter! It makes great commercial sense to enter this consumer-focussed competition with an expert judging panel that makes top-quality beers and ciders readily available to a wide variety of customers.
