Wibha's homemade feijoa pizza

Serves 6-7

Feijoas are really versatile and can be used in both sweet and savoury dishes. This NZ grown fruit is in season from April to June - So give these delicious recipes a try and make the most of feijoa season.



  • 3 cups plain flour
  • 1 tsp salt
  • ½ tsp sugar
  • 1 tsp instant yeast
  • 1 tbsp oil
  • 1– 1¼ cups warm water
  • ½ tsp oregano
  • 8-10 firm feijoas
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, crushed (optional)
  • ½ tsp chili powder (optional)
  • 1-2 tsp chaat masala
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ½ cup tomato paste
  • Black pepper
  • 100g crumbled feta
  • 2 cups cheese
  • 1 cup baby spinach
  • ¾ cup finely diced tomato
  • 1 tsp olive oil
  • 1 cup chopped capsicum

  1. To make the pizza bases, combine the sugar, salt, oregano, flour, yeast and oil in a large bowl. Stir in sufficient warm water to knead to form a soft dough. Place dough into a clean greased bowl. Cover the bowl and set aside in a warm place until it has approximately doubled in size.
  2. Peel Feijoas and slice them into round shapes. Sprinkle chaat masala and chili powder and cover. In a pan heat oil, add the onion and garlic and cook until tender. Stir in the capsicum, tomatoes and salt cook a little and remove from heat.
  3. Pre-heat the oven to 200°C. Divide the dough into 3-4 pieces and roll on a floured bench to desired size. Place onto greased baking trays and spread each pizza base with some tomatoe paste. Sprinkle over with some oregano and pepper. Then spread the cooked topping then spinach. Place the feijoas on top, spread feta and cheese and bake for 20 minutes or until risen and golden.


* You can partially cook just the base first then spread a tsp of olive oil before placing the toppings. 
* Can get chaat masala from and Asian or Indian shops. 
* Don’t have to cook toppings and you can select your own choice of toppings.
