From a brewery famed for their hoppy beers, this is lemon bright with a hint of sweetness. It has a soft mouthfeel, a quenching citrus flavour and finishes bone dry. As a style XPA – for extra pale ale – is open to interpretation but it generally means lighter malts (more like a lager), lower ABV (4.8 percent here) and a relatively heavy hand on the hops. The judges loved the way this delivered flavours of lemongrass and melon in a quenching fashion. “Moreish beer”, they wrote.
The nature of XPA is to be light and dry with some hoppy kick. The airiness of this beer wants some sweet and sticky to fight against such foods; try sweet and sour pork or sticky ribs.
