What to expect:
Vibrant, intense citrus-pine hops
Christchurch-based Cassels is a family-run operation started by Alasdair Cassels, his son Zak and son-in-law Joe Shanks. This American Pale Ale nails all the requisite flavours – snappy citrus, pine and a hint of dank that’s like super-ripe tropical fruit. Mild honey and biscuit notes come through underneath to create for a long, coherent flavour journey. The judges loved the fresh vibrancy and intensity of the hop character, the “rich and gravelly” mouthfeel, the “smooth but gentle bitterness” describing it as a “grunty beer” with great balance and drinkability.

This is a robust pale ale with good structure, so it will play nicely with robust foods such as steak and kidney pie or a slow-cooked stew.
