Plastic Free July

Find out how simple swaps can make a big difference in helping you live sustainably.

Nau mai Plastic Free July! It’s that time of year where we and millions of others across the globe do our part to go plastic-free and live a bit more sustainably. It’s so easy to participate in the challenge by making just a few simple swaps. Like, buying products in glass jars or bars of soap, and ditching the produce bag! Learn more about some simple swaps you can make this Plastic Free July.

Simple swaps when you're in store

  • Use the recycled paper bags provided at Alison’s Pantry bulk bin departments. Decant your bulk bin items when you get home and re-use for food-on-the-go!
  • Bring your own containers to use in the deli, seafood, butchery and bakery departments.
  • Choose brands sold in glass jars and reuse them at home for food storage.
  • Swap for brands that are made and manufactured right here in NZ – support local and go good for the environment at the same time!
  • Buy laundry powder in a cardboard box with no plastic scoop.
  • Consider swapping for drinks in aluminium cans which are recycled to make new aluminium cans – this is an infinite process!
  • Use refill stations where possible or swap for refillable bottles. We have ecostore refilleries at selected New World stores.
  • Thanks to our partners at Plastic Free July Aotearoa and WasteMINZ
